Volcan 300, known as Vulcan 300 (バルカン300 Barukan 300) in the Japanese version and in the Discotek translation of the movies, is a cardboard toy from the Zatch Bell! anime and manga series. It was made by Kiyo Takamine to keep Zatch occupied with a "friend" so he doesn't follow him to school.
Volcan is a cardboard robot that Kiyo made for Zatch due to the fact that he had no one to play with. Made out of disposable chopsticks and a Pocky Box in five minutes, Volcan is not very durable. Because of this, there are many versions of Volcan. The first generation was a blue cardboard box, the second generation was a green cardboard box, and the third generation was an orange cardboard box. It was also noted that in Zatch Bell! Attack of Mechavulcan, Kiyo from the future built a fourth generation, which was a malfunctioned toy robot of Volcan 300, which inspired Dr. M2 to create a series of "mechavulcans" called the DS Mecha.
The 1st Generation Volcan 300 only survived for a couple of days because Kiyo had forgotten to glue his head but it only lasted until Kiyo's camping trip when Volcan 300 fell into a pot of curry. The 2nd Generation was destroyed by Naomi at the playground. Tia also made a female variation of Volcan 300 called Volunlun 300.
Volcan is popular with fans and is often seen in comical situations (such as hilariously themed costumes, being fed actual food by Zatch, etc.) and makes many appearances in omake, given a sentient life and actual thoughts. It even played a key role in the second movie where the latest volcan was an actual functioning robot named DS18, created by Dr. M2.
In Zatch Bell! Attack of Mechavulcan, Zatch has made a grave for the first two fallen generations. The 3rd Generation's left chopstick broke on a tree branch and 3rd Generation was later assaulted by Naomi and her toy robot at the playground. Kiyo from the future made a robotic toy version as the 4th Generation, which was stolen by Dr. M2. The fourth generation had a malfunction and using inspiration from the design, Dr. M2 created a series of volcan-like robots called the DS Mecha and the army is called DS Corps (DS
