Victoream (ビクトリーム Bikutorīmu, sometimes translated as "Victoreem") and Mohawk Ace (モヒカン・エース Mohikan Ēsu) are an Ancient Mamodo team. Their spells focus on lasers.

History[]

Release[]

He was among the many Ancient Mamodo who Zofis freed from his curse of stone. Like most of the others, he was partnered to a modern-day descendant of his previous partner who was brainwashed into a fighting machine.

The Invaders in the Ruins[]

While resting in a room somewhere in the ruins alongside Dalmos and Laila, Victoream sensed the presence of Zatch Bell and Kiyo Takamine, Tia and Megumi Oumi, Kanchomé and Parco Folgore, and Ponygon, who had just defeated Alm, Gelios, and Ganz. Sensing their weakened power levels and musing on how it could be entertaining, he got to his feet and headed towards them, lying to Laila that he was going to investigate the noises he heard from below.[1]

When he reached the room where Zatch and the others were recovering, he dramatically announced his presence, saying his name. Nobody noticed, too occupied with their own arguments. He announced his presence again with the same result, then grew angry. The menacing aura and glow of his book got Megumi's attention, and she alerted everyone else to his presence. As they noticed him, he smiled calmly and the glow faded. Laughing, he told them he wouldn't get angry if they didn't ignore him and proudly introduced himself. Bemused, they repeated his name at his request, and he suddenly grew menacing again, promising to send them to the underworld, and cast Maguruga. The attack blew a V-shaped hole in the ruins' wall, but the humans and mamodos managed to dodge the attack.

Victoream monologued as he beheld the sun shining through the V-shaped hole, proclaiming his inevitable victory and saying that against three enemies, he would have to go all-out from the start, even knowing that his opponents were weakened. He levitated his head several feet above the ground, his body remaining behind in a V formation, and began to spin his head around rapidly. Kiyo figured out his plan just fast enough for everyone to cluster close to Tia, and as Mohawk Ace cast Maguruga again, Megumi cast Seushiru just in time to block the attack. Victoream taunted them on the barrier's weakness, and Mohawk Ace continued pouring energy into the spell. Victoream's attack caused heavy damage to the room, breaking the walls and terrace and making Seushiru crack. But before Megumi's energy ran out, Victoream accidentally struck his own body. Coughing up blood, his head fell back to the ground as, bemused, Megumi let the shield fall.[2]

With few options for victory, Kiyo plotted to aim straight for Victoream's spellbook. With Victoream still recovering from his own spell, all four Mamodo opponents charged wildly at him. Zatch sent Victoream's head flying with a close-range Zakeruga, and Victoream narrated his own damage report as his head slammed into Mohawk Ace's head. Victoream stated a need to get back to his body and saw it walking nearby. His head rejoined with his body, but he found that he couldn't make it move; instead, it moved on its own and tried tugging the spellbook away from Mohawk Ace, to Victoream's incredulity. Then he felt severe pain all over his body, and turned to see that Zatch, Tia, and Ponygon were all violently attacking his body. He turned back to the body he was on in confusion, and found that Kanchomé's face had bled through his disguise at the crotch. Levitating again off of the false body, Victoream fired another Maguruga. But Zatch, Tia, and Ponygon dodged, leaving the attack to once again strike Victoream's own body.

As the other mamodos regrouped, Victoream furiously rejoined his head and body as he planned to destroy them. He positioned himself in a V formation and began casting Chāguru to prepare his ultimate spell. After Victoream lit his right arm and right shoulder, Kiyo sent Zatch to attack him, but Victoream repelled him with Maguru Yo-Yo, knocking him back. Resuming his pose, he lit the third light at his crotch, but Tia began throwing stones, aiming at his crotch and striking more than once. Outraged, Victoream decided to forego the remaining charging and fired a partially charged Chāguru Imisudon. Kiyo attempted to counter with Baou Zakeruga, but the lightning dragon faded fast against the laser, and they barely managed to dodge out of the way.

Victoream laughed at their feeble attempt to fend off his attack and immediately began casting Chaguru again to finish them off with a full-power attack. As his enemies conversed to pull off one last gambit, Victoream taunted them saying that it was useless.[3]

As Victoream charged four out of five lights, Megumi used the last of her energy to cast Saifojio. Victoream reacted anxiously and demanded to know what the spell was, and only grew more incredulous as she turned the sword towards one of her teammates. Victoream hurriedly finished charging, but before he could cast the spell, Kiyo got back to his feet and stood before him, explaining that Saifojio was a recovery spell that restored physical health and heart energy. Victoream regained his confidence, recalling Baou Zakeruga's failure again. But as he prepared to fire, Kiyo invoked Baou Zakeruga once more, aiming towards the ceiling. Victoream held off on his attack, but quickly figured that he planned to angle the dragon back towards Victoream after it passed his laser. He tilted his body 45 degrees up and then fired his Chāguru Imisudon at full power, but Baou Zakeruga continued climbing higher, dispersing against the ceiling above him, while the V-shaped laser blasted through the ceiling above the others.

Seeing this, Victoream taunted them profusely, laughing heartily. But then he realized that he hadn't attacked them directly, and began walking towards them to finish the job. As he went, however, he spotted his spellbook on the ground, and snatched it up in anger and horror before chastising Mohawk Ace. But turning back to his bookkeeper, he saw his spellbook under Mohawk Ace's arm still. He was briefly confused, but then Mohawk Ace's shirt came unbuttoned, revealing Kanchomé's face on his bare abdominals. Victoream immediately connected the dots: though Kiyo had pretended to be recovered from Saifojio, the spell was actually used on Folgore, which allowed Kanchomé (thrown into the air by Zatch) to transform into Baou Zakeruga, allowing him to approach Victoream and transform into Mohawk Ace, book and all.

Victoream immediately attacked Mohawk Ace, knocking him out and causing him to let go of the spellbook. Kanchomé immediately taunted him that he was close, revealing that his transformed state was actually the spellbook in Victoream's hands. Transforming back to normal, he snatched up the real spellbook and clarified that what he actually did after sneaking behind Victoream was use a magic marker to draw his face on Mohawk Ace's belly. Fuming, Victoream charged at him, but Zatch and Tia latched onto his body while Ponygon, Kiyo, Megumi, and Folgore boxed him in on all sides.

Kiyo lectured Victoream that he lost because he didn't have a true partner to fight alongside him. Victoream loudly expressed his rage and indignation at his defeat, and made a last request to let him go out while posing as a V.[4]

Anime Expansion[]

In the anime, when Victoream first appeared, Folgore attempted to pacify him by prostrating and begging for forgiveness, offering a slice of melon as an apology. Victoream slowly approached the plate, sniffed at it, then scarfed the melon down. Overjoyed at the taste, he burst into song, which Zatch and Tia joined him in. Kiyo yelled at him, killing his enthusiasm and making him begin his attack.

After Victoream's Maguruga bombardment, Folgore and Kanchomé tried pacifying him again in the same way. To Kiyo's surprise, Victoream accepted the melon and began singing once more. At the end of the second chorus, with Victoream's guard down, the other demons charged him and began attacking his body. They tied him up with some nearby vines, but Victoream cut through them with his Maguru Yo-Yo spell and sent them retreating.

Finally, when Victoream was defeated, his last request was to sing his song once more. Though bemused, the other mamodos joined in with him, and burned his book at the end of the chorus.

Although these scenes are not strictly canon, Victoream's passion for melons became canon later:

The Golden Spellbook[]

In the final battle against Clear Note, Victoream was among the mamodos who lent Zatch his power directly; after Pamoon cast Faruseeze Baron and Laila cast Miberuna Shin Miguron, Victoream caused the moons and stars to spin rapidly and caused Zatch to stand in a V-stance as he used his strongest spell, Shin Chāguru Imisudon, to make all of them fire V-shaped lasers to destroy Clear's infinite bullets, with Victoream laughing madly all the time. At Zatch's surprise, Victoream told him that he was able to bring a melon seed with him back to the Mamodo world, and that one melon gave birth to a million melons.[5]

After the Battle[]

Victoream was shown happily watching over a melon garden that was beginning to sprout, and he also appeared in the group picture of all the Mamodos at the end of the battle.[6]

In the Manga Only Mini series Zatch cafe (Gash in Japan). Victoream is dining with Leila. Mohawk Ace and Leila’s parter Albert are their servers. Victoream’s order consists entirely of melon, while Leila’s consists of Rumando sticks, cocoa rice cakes and a blueberry shake. Victoream and Leila reminisce about the previous battle before they were turned to stone. They would constantly run into each other coincidentally from time to time. There was a time Leila and her previous partner’s family were captured by Vikings. Victoream and his previous partner were sailing to Japan when they too were captured by the same Vikings. The captain of the Vikings was also a Mamodo bookkeeper, with a Mamodo partner. Victoream and Leila teamed up and defeated the Mamodo. Victoream also tells Leila after he herd she was turned to stone, he challenged Goren of the Stone to a battle (which lead to his petrification). This impressed Leila and she shared her rice cake with Victoream.

Victoream[]

Appearance[]

Victoream is roughly four feet tall; his head alone composes half his height. His head, colored white, is shaped like a giant capital V, with his face—roughly half a foot tall—at the bottom-center. On his forehead is a downward pointing gold spade that seems to be part of his armor. His eyes have yellow sclera with no visible irises or pupils, and lines stretch from the corners of his mouth to his angular chin.

His body, also white, is shaped like a lowercase v with a short but large tail curving up from the backside. He has thin orange arms that resemble cords and forearms protected by thick white armor. He wears gray fingerless gloves or armor and he has five fingers on his hands. He has brown legs slightly thicker than his arms and white armor over his calves that end in points at the feet; the tops have knee guards and the bottoms are gold-colored. On the backs of his wrists, his shoulders, and his crotch are five green lights with gold highlights (sun-shaped on the body, fire-shaped on the arms) that light up when he uses his Chāguru spell.

Personality[]

Victoream is an aggressive and narcissistic Mamodo prone to violent mood swings. He boasts and monologues of his own power, ability, and beauty; frequently thinks out loud and narrates his actions; and easily becomes enraged when ignored. He can go from happy to outraged in an instant even without clear provocation, and like most Ancient Mamodos, he has a thirst for battle after his imprisonment. It is unclear whether it was pride or bloodlust that led him to disobey Zofis's orders and engage the intruders himself.

In battle, he gauges opponents based on their potential rather than their current status, shown as he planned to go all-out against Zatch, Tia, and Kanchomé because they outnumbered him despite knowing that they had almost no energy left to use spells. He showed cunning usage of his apparently minimal pool of spells, deducing his opponents' strategies quickly and responding just as fast, though he frequently was rash in his responses. He also showed anger, shock, and a bit of cowardice when his apparently helpless opponents pulled out another trick, demanding to know what they were up to.

In the anime, he is given an acute passion for melons after trying the one Folgore gave him, to the point of foregoing his anger at being humiliated and outdone to have more of the fruit. This passion later carried into the manga, where he was so passionate about growing his melon garden that he not only lent Zatch his power, he pushed through enough to lend Zatch his strongest spell, the only Mamodo to do so who hadn't been any kind of ally to Zatch previously.

Abilities[]

Victoream possesses a well-developed demon sense, as he was able to detect the locations and diminished power levels of three Mamodos and their partners (and one Mamodo with no partner) from another area of the ruins, while Laila and Dalmos apparently detected nothing. It is possible that he even sensed their battle with the other three Ancient Mamodos and their subsequent victory.

Additionally, he shows the ability to levitate his head from his body without the usage of a spell, though it appears to require focus to maintain as his head fell to the ground when his body took significant damage.

Mohawk Ace[]

Mohawk Ace is a fully grown man with a biker aesthetic. He is mostly bald with long red hair in a pencil-thin mohawk. He has a black number 1 on his forehead and chest; the anime shows that Victoream drew them on. He wears a dark green long-sleeved leather jacket with no shirt underneath, exposing his bare chest; the shoulders of the coat have numerous foot-long spikes and the lapels have large metal buttons. His pants are the same color as his jacket, held up with a large black belt with thick silver buttons linked upon it, and he wears dark brown shoes.

Like most of the Ancient Mamodos' brainwashed bookkeepers, he has no personality beyond aggression in using his spells, and he never appears again after Victoream's defeat. Though in the anime adaptation, he was shown to be somewhat more expressive than other brainwashed victims.

Victoream’s previous parter was revealed in the manga spin-off Zatch Cafe ('Gash Cafe’ in Japan). While the book owner's face isn’t seen. she is revealed to be a well-known person in reality: Murasaki Shikibu, the Japanese lady-in-waiting who was one of the world's first novelists.
