Sugino and Haru

Sugino (スギナ, Sugina) and Haru (春彦, Haruhiko) are an early team encountered by Zatch and Kiyo at the Botanical Gardens in Mochinoki. Their abilities are the manipulation of plants. He and his partner, Haru, seem to be rather experienced fighters as they have figured out how many times Haru can draw on sufficient heart power to cast spells, and Haru mentions that they have fought Mamodo that shoot spells from their mouths. Believing that strategy and tactics are the key to winning in battle, they meticulously plot out their circumstances before moving. Using this, they take all of the people at the conservatory hostage with their spells, forcing Kiyo and Zatch to start using tactics of their own to take them out.

When the duos first battle, Zatch Bell and Kiyo Takamine were at a disadvantage since Sugino had taken a few humans hostage before the fight, ensnaring them with Juron. This leads Kiyo to invent the system they use during every fight afterwords: Zatch watches his fingers the whole time, and when Kiyo points at a target, Zatch quickly aims his mouth at it, as Kiyo chants the spell. They manage to free all of the hostages this way, but Kiyo runs out of heart power before he can cast an attack at Haru and Sugino. However, before the duo can finish Kiyo and Zatch, Ivy snatches the book from Haru and the college student whom Kiyo had saved from earlier frees Kiyo from "Juron". This halts Sugino and Haru's attacks for a while but Sugino sneaks behind Ivy and grabs his book back, kicking Ivy away. The duo then launches their strongest attack, "Raja Jugaro" but Kiyo , who had recovered his heart power after Ivy and the college student reminds him he is not fighting alone, reflects with "Rashield", succeeding in burning Sugino's book. While in that chapter, Haru's fate was not shown, it can be assumed that he ran away. Haru's makes a brief appearance in chapter 304 and is shown staring at several plants, possibly remembering Sugino. Sugino appears to aid Zatch in his final battle with Clear Note along with Reycom, Purio, Karudio, Rops, Momon and Riya. One month after Zatch becomes king, Sugino is one of the hundred mamodos that send a letter to their partner and is shown in the library along with Kido, Momon, Robnos, Zaruchim, Zabas and Furigaro.
