A Gentle King (やさしい王様 Yasashii Ōsama, lit. "A Kind King") is the eighteenth chapter of the Zatch Bell!/Konjiki no Gash!! manga series by Makoto Raiku, published on September 18, 2001 in Japan and August 2, 2005 in the U.S. in the second volume.

Summary[]

Gash asks Kiyomaro to stop using the spells because he can't fight the crying pair. Kiyomaro protests that they attacked them but Shiori begs them not to attack anymore as she casts another spell. Kiyomaro is about to read another spell but Gash forbid it and takes Koruru's attack head on. Gash says he knows Shiori and that he won't attack them any more. Shiori is relieved and asks Gash to help Koruru. Koruru tries to attack anyway but Shiori takes the hit on her shoulder. She hugs Koruru until she returns to normal.

When Koruru wakes up, Shiori's shoulder is bandaged up. Koruru asked what happened and comes to the realization that she caused this destruction and hurt everyone. Despite Shiori saying otherwise Koruru knows the truth and asks Gash to burn her book. Gash can't because she'll return to the demon world if she does. Koruru is fine with that as the other part of herself will be gone as well. Shiori tries to convince Koruru that she can not read the book anymore but is deterred when Koruru mentions that Shiori did read the spell even if she knew bad things would happen. Gash vows to protect her but Koruru is convinced. Kiyomaro asks Gash to look at the book. Gash wonders what's up with it until Kiyomaro mutters a spell to burn the book.

Gash is about to yell at Kiyomaro until he sees his partner's tears. Koruru is thankful that Kiyomaro did what he did. Kiyomaro is clearly upset that a kind demon was given a vengeful personality just so they can fight. Shiori begs for Koruru to stay as she'll be alone again but Koruru says they'll always be sisters. Koruru mentions that if the king of the demon world was a kind king, they likely wouldn't have to fight. Gash says that she's right as she vanishes
